Help Families Get Back on Their Feet
Through awareness and action, we can offer hope.
Home & Hope’s mission is to provide a safe haven for families facing homelessness and help them to regain long-term self-sufficiency. We seek to increase awareness around the issue of homelessness by actively engaging volunteers from the local community.
A Safe Haven
The HOPE of San Mateo County Plan found that the greatest need is for permanent and affordable housing for people with extremely low incomes — those at or below the poverty line. Without safe or stable housing, families find it difficult to keep a job, maintain their physical and mental health and wellbeing, and make short- and long-term plans to break the cycle of homelessness. But with a safe haven, families have the stability and support that can help them get back on their feet.
Though homelessness in San Mateo County is prevalent, many have turned a blind eye to the plight of this population. And many others don’t understand the collective causes that have forced families into homelessness. Home & Hope seeks to heighten our community’s awareness of the various issues that result in homelessness through engaging our own community in volunteerism. Through community action, volunteers experience our families as people, not statistics, and learn that homelessness can happen to anyone at any time.
By coming together as a collective of volunteers, we also see how our combined strength can be amplified to create a lasting impact, not only on our guest families, but on ourselves and our communities.
